New arrangements for Supplementary Welfare Allowance appeals
Responsibility for Supplementary Welfare Allowance schemes, including Basic Income, Rent Supplement, Mortgage Interest Supplement and Diet Supplement, transferred to the Department of Social Protection on 1 October 2011.
Changes have been introduced for dealing with appeals under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance schemes so that a person may now make an appeal directly to the Chief Appeals Officer.
If your claim for payment under one of these schemes was disallowed and you want to make an appeal, please click on the 'SWA APPEALS' tab opposite where you will be shown what to do.

The Social Welfare Appeals Office operates independently of the Department of Social and Family Affairs. It aims to provide an independent, accessible and fair appeals service for entitlement to social welfare payments and to deliver that service in a prompt and courteous manner.
In seeking to fulfil that role the Office places particular value on a high level of customer service and efficient administration.
